I use Movavi Video Editor 4, Mac version. (which is closer to 15 on the PC) so my dad showed me this video for the sound of silence in which it shows all of the scenery of electric zoo. and basically I said I could do the same thing with state fair. I love the idea, I just never came back to it because it was both simple and I never bothered putting both the music and the sources on the fixed computer. (this case I am talking about the 2014, this was finished on the new computer but there was a 2017 that worked very terribly in the mix of all of this. (strangely enough to stick with an older computer as my primary) some of this blurb may have been made for when I was trying to finish this up during the last contest) I began this idea back in 2021 but another reason it was because I had to focus on things that actually could make it into a contest after this contest was, basically cancelled for multiple years. this is the only main contest that does live action after all. as soon as I was reminded about the video I knew this was the one for this contest. I was going to choose this video for last contest but it just needed a few more tweaks and I feel it's ready now.
Overtime definitely after visiting the actual fair the show was based on I found out that their PBS hosts covered every year of this so I used some of their footage as well. I still kept the majority of my base. I will say that the portions before the second verse were mostly only altered add to add transitions. One or two scenes were added to a accompany the time difference that adding the transitions caused, but since we are talking about my transitions being around 100-300ms with a single exception towards the very beginning it did not really lead to many additional scenes. except possibly about 2 minutes and 24 seconds (third verse) in which I started adding a lot of scenes. (but I think the second verse is still better than the first verse over all) originally this was a heavy scenery based with no particular people focused in it with the exception of beginning staring out of the car, the first verse brother walking, and the ending. it changed a little bit over time but I still think it focuses on that.
I have a feeling some people are wondering why I chose a movie over the real thing. a good chunk of this video was done back in 2021 before I knew that they did a hour-long coverage each year daily for one week of the fair. I ran across from around the same time I was publishing Sailor Moon videos every year. (and this contest was out of commission for multiple years meaning there was not really any place to publish the video) before I put the transitions in, it was a complete video but by the time I came back to it I wanted to polish it up but I did not want to decommission the whole video from scratch so instead I chose to use the fridge to supplement the video instead. do I think there is merit in making a video based on the real thing yes but I feel like I got the spirit perfectly with the way I did this. I even put the famous chair swing, the butter cow and horseshoes.
before anyone comes with quality complaints. I originally tried a 'ultra HD' version (1280x960) but automatically The two settings were offering 533 MB or 160 MB and I did not want to resize it on another program since I am in the process of fixing the operating system for my new computer (long story) so I did not put the converter program. basically I have been transferring it back to the macbook air (The ones from 2014 I mentioned last contest was retired) any time there needs to be a screenshot or a conversion. even though I was already moving it over there for the screenshots it was simpler not to publish a second generation conversion. I understand the want of a higher quality video but I feel you still get the experience from this one as much as you would have gotten it from 1280x960 which I edited it on and was originally going to upload it as.
on other news I moved back to the plain credits because I can't think of anything big I can quickly make for this one that would make it worthwhile using up the time to make a credit videos. also I think people might have been getting confused thinking the credits were part of the video because I noticed my scores going down instead of up. (not always, but I mean in relationship to the video quality) I am not saying that there has been no recognition considering the bold and the beautiful amv credits made the exit video for that contest but it was supposed to be a selling point and I don't think you accomplish that and it takes an extra 3 to 4 hours at least to make them so we are back to the "PowerPoint credits" for now. (maybe if I do the spring contest I might bring them back) I put a quick ticket thing for the ending credits (after I put the text on the credits sadly, which is why everything is not completely on the ticket) to give everyone something (I was originally going to do sound effects but the song sounded so good with the moving ticket I didn't want to alter it) but I kept the beginning credits back to traditional yellow stripes.
